Quick answers for Discord chat exporter. If you are still stuck, the contact options are at the bottom of this page.
Getting started
- Open discord.com in Google Chrome and open the channel or direct message you want to export. The Discord desktop app is not supported.
- Click the extension icon in the Chrome toolbar. The first time, read the short privacy notice and choose I understand and agree.
- Choose how much to export (full history, last 30 or 7 days, only what is visible, or custom dates) and a format.
- Click Export channel. A progress card appears on the Discord page. Keep that tab open and visible until it finishes.
- The workspace opens with your conversation. Preview it, then download the chat, or Download everything to include its images and files.
Troubleshooting
The popup is blank or does nothing
Open chrome://extensions, find Discord chat exporter and click the reload icon, then refresh your Discord tab. Make sure the Discord page is open in Chrome (not the desktop app).
It says it can’t find any messages
Open a server channel or a direct message so that messages are visible on the page, wait for them to load, and try again.
The export stopped before the start of the channel
Keep the Discord tab open and visible while it runs, and don’t switch channels. If it stopped, export the same channel again: it continues from what was already saved. The note on the finished export says whether the start of the channel was reached.
Some images or files could not be saved
Discord’s file links expire after about a day. Export again and choose Download everything right away. The report in the ZIP lists every file that could not be saved and why.
Stickers, polls or system messages are missing
They have no readable text, so they are counted and reported but not exported.
The dates look different from Discord
Dates and times follow the time zone you choose under Dates and times. The exact UTC time is always included too.
Your data
Everything stays on your device. To delete a saved conversation, use the trash icon next to it in the workspace. To remove everything, open Settings → Delete all local data, or remove the extension from Chrome. See the Privacy Policy for details.
