Privacy Policy
Discord chat exporter (the “extension”), a Chrome extension. Last updated: November 8, 2026.
This page is the Privacy Policy for the extension. It describes what the extension reads, how that information is used, where it is stored, and who it is shared with.
The short version
- We do not collect your data. The extension has no server. The chats you export are read, processed and stored only in your own browser, on your own device.
- We never receive, see, sell, share or transfer your chats, your Discord account details, or anything else the extension handles.
- No accounts, no ads, no analytics, no tracking, no cookies in the extension.
- You are asked first. The extension shows a plain-language notice and reads nothing until you agree.
- You are in control. You can delete any saved conversation, or all data, at any time.
1. What the extension reads
The extension handles the following information, only because you ask it to export a conversation. It is “user data” under the Chrome Web Store policy, so we list all of it here.
| Information | When it is read | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Messages on the Discord page you have open: author display names, message text, times, replies, reactions, link previews, edited markers, and the names and links of attachments | Only after you click Export channel on a discord.com tab | To build the file you asked for |
| The page address and title of that Discord tab (for example the channel name and its web address) | When you open the popup (to detect a Discord channel) and when you export | To recognize a channel, label the export, and resume an interrupted export |
| Text you select on any other web page, plus that page’s title and site name | Only after you click Save highlighted text from this page | To save that text as a conversation |
| Text you paste into the workspace | Only when you paste and save it | To save and export it |
| Attachment files (images, PDFs, videos and similar) that are part of the chat | Only if you tick Also save the images and files or click Download everything | To include the real files in your ZIP |
| Your settings: last format and range, time zone, theme, the option switches, and a record that you agreed to the notice | When you change them | To remember your choices |
The extension does not read your Discord password, login token, cookies, payment details, or your browsing history. It does not look at any tab other than the one you ask it to export, and it does not run in the background on pages you have not chosen.
2. How it is used
The information above is used for one purpose only: to build the export files you request (AI-ready text, JSON, JSONL, CSV, Markdown, text, HTML or ZIP), to let you preview, search and filter them, and to remember your settings. It is not used for advertising, profiling, analytics, research, creditworthiness, or any other purpose, and nobody at the developer reads it.
3. Where it is stored and for how long
- On your device only. Conversations you capture are saved in your browser’s local database (IndexedDB) for this extension. Your settings are saved in the extension’s local storage. Nothing is saved on our servers, because there are none.
- Not synced. The extension does not use Chrome Sync, so your saved conversations do not move to other devices.
- Retention. It stays until you delete it. Use the trash icon beside a conversation, or Settings → Delete all local data. Uninstalling the extension or clearing the browser’s site data also removes it. Files you already downloaded stay where you saved them, and you can delete them yourself.
- Not encrypted by the extension. It relies on your browser profile and device protection. Anyone who can use your computer account can open the extension and see saved conversations.
4. Sharing and transfers
We do not share, sell, rent or transfer your data to anyone. The extension has no server and sends no information to us or to any third party. The only times information leaves the extension’s own pages are actions you start yourself:
- Attachment downloads (optional). If you choose to save images and files, Chrome first asks for your permission, and then the extension fetches the files directly from Discord’s file servers (cdn.discordapp.com and media.discordapp.net) to your device. Discord receives the same kind of request your browser makes when it shows the image. Discord’s own privacy policy applies to that.
- Downloads. Files you create are saved to your computer through your browser’s normal download feature.
- Copy for an AI chat. This copies text to your clipboard. The extension never connects to an AI service. If you paste the text into an AI tool or share a file with anyone, that is your choice, and that service’s own policy applies.
The extension loads no remote code, no remote fonts, no advertising and no analytics. It does not use cookies.
5. Chrome Web Store limited use
The use of information received through Chrome extension capabilities adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. In particular:
- user data is used only to provide and improve the single purpose of this extension (exporting a conversation you choose into files);
- user data is not transferred to others, except as described above at your direction, to comply with law, or for security;
- user data is not used or transferred for advertising, including personalized or interest-based advertising, and is not sold;
- user data is not used to determine creditworthiness or for lending, and humans do not read it. We do not receive it at all.
6. Permissions explained
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
activeTab | Lets the extension work on the tab you are looking at only after you click its icon. It is how the extension recognizes the Discord channel you opened, without asking for access to every website. |
scripting | Lets the extension read the messages shown on the Discord tab you chose, and show a small progress card on that page while the export runs. It runs only on that tab, only after your click. |
Optional: cdn.discordapp.com and media.discordapp.net | Requested only if you choose to save images and files. It lets the extension download your chat’s attachments directly from Discord to your device. You can decline, and everything else still works. |
The extension does not use remote code. All of its code is included in the package you install from the Chrome Web Store.
7. Your choices and deleting data
- Agree or decline. Nothing is read until you agree to the notice shown on first use. If you say no, nothing is read or saved.
- Delete. Delete a single conversation, or all local data, in the workspace at any time.
- Access and correction. Because the data exists only on your device and we never receive it, you can see, change, export and delete it directly in the extension. We have no copy that we could access, correct or delete for you.
- Revoke permission. You can remove the optional Discord file-server permission at any time in Chrome’s extension settings.
8. Other people’s messages
Chats contain other people’s names and messages. You decide what to export and what to do with the files, so please export only conversations you are allowed to, respect the privacy of everyone in them, and follow Discord’s terms and the laws that apply to you. The export options can mask email addresses and mentions or replace author names, but automated masking is not guaranteed to remove every identifying detail, so review a file before you share it.
9. This website
This website is a static information site. It has no accounts, no forms, no cookies, no advertising and no analytics. It is served by Cloudflare, which, like any web host, processes standard technical request data (such as your IP address and browser type) to deliver and protect the site. We do not use that data to identify you.
10. Security
Keeping data on your device means it is not exposed through a company server. The extension asks for the smallest set of permissions it needs, only acts when you click, loads no remote code, restricts which addresses it can connect to, and treats text found in chats as plain data (exports escape web-page and spreadsheet formulas). No method is perfectly secure, so please keep your computer and browser up to date.
11. Children
The extension is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect any information from anyone. Discord requires its users to meet a minimum age, and this extension is intended for people who may use Discord under its terms.
12. Changes to this policy
If the extension’s data practices change, this page will be updated first, with a new “last updated” date, and any change in what the extension reads or where data goes will be disclosed prominently in the extension and the Chrome Web Store listing before it takes effect.
13. Contact
Questions about this policy or your data? See the Support page, contact us through learnwithphiliphustle.com, or use the support contact shown on the extension’s Chrome Web Store listing.
